Sea Organ Zadar
Stretching 70 meters along Zadar's Riva, this architectural marvel transforms sea waves into enchanting music. Beneath the white marble steps that descend into the Adriatic lies an intricate system of 35 pipes, each carefully designed with different lengths, diameters, and angles. These pipes connect to specially crafted whistles (labiums) that produce seven chords of five tones each, creating a continuous symphony as waves push air through the system.
This unique fusion of architecture and nature was designed by architect Nikola Bašić, who collaborated with expert Professor Vladimir Andročec for sea hydraulics, craftsman Goran Ježina for pipe construction, the renowned Heferer workshop for labiums, and Professor Ivica Stamać for tuning. The project earned prestigious recognition, winning the European Prize for Urban Public Space in Barcelona (2006) among 207 competing projects.
Here, visitors gather to experience a perpetual concert performed by the "Orchestra of Nature"—a perfect space for relaxation, contemplation, and connecting with both sea and sound.
